Description| The Liahona 43 “Amakama” (ama-aka-ama) is a capable offshore performance cruising trimaran designed by Australian Roger Simpson and built by Frans Aeyelts in Nova Scotia, Canada. She is constructed of high quality fiberglass foam sandwich and Bruynzeel Mahogany plywood.
“Amakama” is a proven offshore performance cruiser. She has successfully completed two round-trip passages between Nova Scotia and the Caribbean via Bermuda, showing an ability to regularly achieve passages of 200 nautical miles/day. Her retractable centerboard provides excellent upwind performance in the open ocean as well as a shoal draft of only 3’ with the board retracted. Her current owners have sailed “Amakama” in New England waters. They have recently completed numerous upgrades to her equipment and systems.
During the winter of 2007/2008, “Amakama” underwent an extensive (over US$50,000) refit at well-known multihull builder/sailor Walter Greene’s yard in Yarmouth, Maine. She has now returned to her Connecticut mooring and is ready for your inspection.
“Amakama” has a very comfortable accommodation plan that is optimized for long term live aboard use. Her asking price is very reasonable for a vessel of her size and capabilities; much less than a catamaran of similar size. She would be an excellent choice for sailors interested in a safe and comfortable offshore performance cruising multihull.
