Getting to know your way around the plotter

Use the YOTREPS Voyager as an alternative to the tracker to show more detailed plots of boats on passage. It's fast to install simple to operate and offers the following features:

Zoomable charts - choose your own coverage area.

Covers the world between 80°N and 80°S.
Build your own charts with your choice of colours and regional detail.

Marked location of over 4500 cities, ports and minor anchorages. You choose which names are shown.
Search the entire online YOTREPS data base and extract all reports from individual boats between your specified dates
Plots your selected boat or group of boats. Show a single voyage or all reported voyages.
Compact - fits on a single floppy. If you use an Internet cafe, use it to download just the reports you are interested in and take them home to view at your leisure.

The Voyager is a compact downloadable program that runs on your computer and includes its own low resolution world charting system. Specify the boat(s) you want to plot and it connects to the Internet and the YOTREPS data base to extract the data requested. Reports can be saved off line and plotted on charts of your design.

 

Minimum system requirements

Internet connection speed >4500bps
Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, ME or XP.
Pentium 3 500MHz or faster recommended
64 Mb RAM or more
3Mb of free hard drive space.

Approximate size: 1.7byte as a compressed self-extracting setup file which includes its own uninstall utility. When downloading to floppies from an Internet Cafe, use Winzip (from winzip.com) to save to save to multiple disks.

 


Quick Start Guide

Before using the Voyager save yourself a heap of time and frustration by reading this section
Step
1. Install the download on your computer. It is a standard setup file and should present no difficulties if you've ever installed software before. If not seek advice from someone that has.
2. Run the Voyager from the desk top icon or shortcut menu and it opens by showing a world map. 
3. Click the 'Get reports' tool bar icon. It's the first on the left and looks like this:-
4. The 'Boat Search' dialog box appears. Enter the Identifier of the boat you wish to search for. A complete list of boats curently in the data base can be found from the reporting_boats web page. (For an example of a trans-Atlantic crossing try ZL2RK)

 

5. Click the 'Search' button and Voyager will attempt to establish an Internet connection to the YOTREPS data base. If successful and reports are found for the boat identifiers you entered, they will be displayed in the list box as shown above.
6. Click 'OK' and the Voyager displays a plot of your recovered reports.

Getting to know your way around the plotter

The Voyager has several features that allow you alter the way your plots are displayed. Most are accessible through the tool bar controls:

Zoom controls
Click the zoom-in  tool and the cursor shape changes to an angle bracket. Place this in top left hand corner of the area that you wish to magnify. Click the left mouse button and it changes shape. Place the new cursor in the bottom right corner of your selected area, click the left mouse button and the map is redrawn with your selected area filling the window. To resume the full world map - click the zoom-out control.

Showing names of ports anchorage and cities
The small yellow spots that appear on zoomed charts show positions of cities, ports and anchorages. Place the cursor over any and click the left mouse button to reveal its name.

Configuring the map display
Use the Tools->Options menu path to reveal the Options dialog box where you can set up your own map colour scheme, and choice of features.
